Hi, I’m John Lewis

I’ve been a counsellor for over 30 years, working with people from many walks of life and with a wide range of challenges. I currently work both in private practice and alongside a number of agencies, including having spent the past 10 years with Pegasus Health, supporting clients through personal, relational, and life-based difficulties.

Before training as a counsellor, I ran a large local business with a staff of around sixty-five. That experience shaped how I work, I understand responsibility, pressure, leadership, and the quiet toll that carrying a lot can take.

My counselling training includes a Diploma in Counselling from Christchurch Polytechnic, along with extensive training in Gestalt therapy. Over the years, I’ve also worked with cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), person-centred counselling, psychodrama, transactional analysis, marriage guidance, and anger management.

I don’t claim to specialise in just one area. Instead, I bring a eclectic, grounded experience and adapt my approach to the person in front of me.

A little more personally

I’m a father of four and a grandfather of eleven and I take my role as a “naughty grandfather” seriously.

Life experience matters in counselling. I bring mine with humility, warmth, and respect for yours.
